Abstract

In the last years, sport has increased its economic dimension, being considered not only a healthy social practice. Precisely this economic relevance has contributed the appearance of a new criminality, based on fraud and corruption, binded manipulation of sports competitions and sports bettings. In order to fight against such behaviours, the Council of Europe, a supranational pioneering institution in sports area, drew up the Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions, wich contains educational and awareness - raising policies, preventive and cooperative measures, and encourages each Party to criminalise several illicit acts in sports.
