Abstract

The gender gap is one of the main problems present in today's society. The equality, not only of women but of different gender identities, is part of the priorities of the European Union, as well as of a large part of the developed countries. In particular, in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), the gender gap is visible in both the academic and professional fields. In higher education, according to a worldwide study, only 35% of all students enrolled in STEM studies are women. There are a large number of initiatives that work to reduce the gender gap in various contexts, from early childhood and primary education to the business sector. The present work presents a pilot study that allows validating the GENCE questionnaire defined in previous works. Specifically, it has been applied in the Degree in Computer Engineering of the University of Salamanca in order to know the perception of its students about the gender gap after applying a set of actions to promote diversity in the field of engineering.
