Resumen

In a context defined by a growing migratory pressure, in which anti-immigration and nationalist parties and discourses are gaining presence, and in which the communicative frame is strongly influenced by hate speeches and disinformation, media coverage of migration becomes more relevant. However, the approaches from the perspective of journalistic ethics are still seldom. The current work seeks to know what role journalistic ethics plays in the coverage of migration via 33 in-depth interviews with journalists specializedon migration of different Spanish media. The interviewed journalistsagree in understanding ethics as a key element for achieving a more human coverage, which can avoid narrative increasing hate speech and, at the same time, fighting the phenomenon of disinformation, although not all the journalists share a same conception about how to approach journalistic ethics. Similarly, an important lack of knowledge and skepticism is perceived regarding the application of deontological norms and codes, but a stronger role of both professional and personal ethics is demanded, and a greater attention to principles such as veracity and defense of Human Rights.
