Abstract

This article delves into the recent concept of cargotecture or container architecture, that is the architecture carried out in recent decades using disused industrial containers as tectonic exoskeleton. In particular and in this case, a generic review of different examples of domestic cargo is carried out, categorizing it according to its uses: individual or collective, permanent or temporary, urban or rural, etc. The study of the different cases also serves to analyze the specific characteristics of this type of architecture and discern between its qualities (low environmental and energy impact, speed of realization, mobility and dynamism, adjusted economic cost...) and its potential difficulties of use (feeling of temporality, aesthetic questioning…). However, the article tries to offer a broad approach to an architectural phenomenon that only gains prominence over the years and that, saving fashions and trends, seems destined to remain and persevere.
