Resum
An inventory of the collection of palms from Padre Julio Marrero Botanical Garden (JBPJM) in Santo Domingo was conducted in order to know the conservation status which was verified according to International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) categories. Out of 43 species recorded, 16 are native to Ecuador. None is included in the categories of threat but they are important from an ethnobotanical point of view for the region. The other species are introduced and very common due to its use in gardening. Dypsis decaryi (Jum.) Beentje & J. Dransf. is the only species in the collection classified as vulnerable (VU). The JBPJM can be a tool for ex situ conservation through the reorientation of its collection including native species with a high degree of threat.
