Abstract
Simultaneous interpreting has hardly ever researched or pondered upon humour and from our viewpoint this pedagogical gap, both for teachers and students, needs to be bridged given its potential complexity. Humour is a communicative element not only entailing a form, but also an intention, it can only be one of them or both concurrently, and it is asvaried as the speaker may desire. The rendering of content, intentions and nuances lies at the core of the interpreting practice, regardless of the modality, at any prestigious interpreting teaching centre. Starting from an article by Pavlicek andPöchhacker on simultaneous conference interpreting and humour, and through the drafting of a methodology intendedto facilitate and incorporate humour into the syllabus, we carried out and analysed, as we shall detail, several short workshops for our simultaneous junior and senior students.
