Abstract

We present the case of a patient diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) with an evolution of 15 years. The disease has brought about vital changes in our patient’s life in terms of his work, social and family relationships. The continuous outbreaks of MS have caused total immobility of the patient, who is in the care of his main caregivers such as his father and sister. Data collection is carried out: Assessment of 14 needs of Virginia Henderson and diagnostic taxonomy NANDA, NOC and NIC. Nursing interventions were based on controlling complications to maintain an acceptable quality of life and on care instructions for caregivers. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the main demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system. Its etiology is not clear, although hypotheses, such as infectious or genetic, are being considered. Its pathophysiology is based on an immune activation that would attack the myelin sheaths, causing progressive and irreversible axonal degeneration.1 Its highest incidence is in young adults, with a very long survival time, over 35 years, so The socioeconomic impact is very important. The enormous cost of the disease is due more to expenses related to the disability caused by MS than to the use of therapies, which, although very expensive, do not account for more than 16-18% of the total expenditure (200 million euros per year)). approximately) 2. While investigating the possibility of an effective curative treatment for MS, efforts should be made to alleviate the symptoms of the disease with a multidisciplinary approach to each symptom, including drugs, rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.3.
