Resumen

Este trabajo analiza los principales instrumentos que existen en el momento actual, a nivel internacional y a nivel europeo, para medir las tendencias delictivas. Algunos de ellos se basan en estadísticas oficiales de delitos registrados; otros en encuestas, bien de victimización, bien de delincuencia auto-revelada. El análisis de cada instrumento abarca, concretamente, el organismo que recopila la información, la frecuencia con la que se realiza el estudio, la cobertura geográfica, los tipos de delitos y su relevancia práctica. Finalmente, se ofrecen unos apuntes acerca del uso actual de esos instrumentos para el desarrollo de la política criminal.
