Abstract

The research project on rural settlement during Late Antiquity near the mounta-ins of Madrid, developed between 2008 and 2016, has allowed to obtain a better vision on the organization and management of this space, characterized by a new network of village settlements. Some of these villages, such as Navalahija and Navalvillar (Colmenar Viejo, Madrid), combined their agricultural work with an outstanding mi-ner-metallurgical iron activity. Therefore, they are examples of the transformation process which took place along the final centuries of Late Antiquity. In these pages, we present the results obtained from the archaeozoological and taphonomical analysis of the bones of Navalahija. The majority of the faunal rema-ins points to a meat consumption pattern based mainly on sheep, goat and cattle. We have also analyzed the anatomical representation of the skeletal remains and their distribution by age, as well as the taphonomic agents that have intervened in the for-mation of the archaeozoological record of Navalahija.
