Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the perceptions of the handball players had about their training activities, general activities related to sports and everyday activities. To this end, a questionnaire was used, valid and reliable, adapted from previous studies (Helsen, Starkes & Hodges, 1998; Hodges, Kerr, Starkes, Weir & Nananidou, 2004). Subjects rated each activity from four dimensions: concentration, physical effort, fun and performance. The study included national-level players (n = 70) and international (n = 37). The results indicate that regardless of skill level no significant differences were found in the perception of activities, highlighting the competition as the most important to improve the performance, being, in turn, perceived this activity as very pleasant and requiring great physical effort and concentration. These results suggest that to plan activities that fulfill the above mentioned criteria will be beneficial for the improvement of the performance.
