We identify universities, available contents and methodology the theme’s research. It was subsequently developed the touchstone to limit the spatial and territorial scope of our study: the southeast of Brazil, of the total 2,391 institutions (public and private), the southeast has 87 different institutions, and were the subject of our study 15 institutions. The objectives we seek in this study are: to assess the applicability of the Global Reporting International (GRI) indicators to analyze the SR of Brazilian universities; collect data available on the web pages of the studied institutions, checking the validity and viability of information; verify the effectiveness of the information contained in the documents that guide the institutions analyzed; identify the possibility of making reports based on GRI indicators. We chose to use the GRI indicators, because there are Spanish universities that publish their MSW memories, based on GRI indicators, another factor that helped in the selection of GRI indicators is that they are international pointers and updates are available online and free of charge facilitating the handling of information obtained. In the search for information the lack of standard in publishing data on the part of universities, it can be considered one of the biggest obstacles to getting fit indicators. Of the 124 GRI indicators, we rank 51 indicators. This study may contribute for the Brazilian universities can measure their management processes and standardize their data, trying to meet a greater number of GRI indicators with a view to standardizing the information, so that the actions taken can be understood by internal and external audiences expanding concern for the future of both the planet and the development of human beings, contributing to the formation of citizens concerned about the common good.
