Resumo

The objective of this article is to review the main elements of the Chilean fi nancial system and its regulations, giving special importance to the banking sector and its relevance in present times. All these elements would be connected with factors of growth pointed by specialized bibliography, and the recommendations of the OCDE regarding fi nancial regulations. An interesting approach in this study is the methodology implied, since an analysis based under the assumption of normality in the fi nancial system is not possible due the eff ects of the late-2007 economic crisis. In this context, not only fi nancial data is subjected to some bias due the abnormality of liquidity fi gures, assets values and default ratios in debt payments. Moreover, the rules and regulations of the sector are under continuous changes and respond to particular circumstances, and perhaps would become permanent. Finally, according to these conditions, the article would be centered in the regulations framework of the fi nancial sector, giving an account about the novelties and regulatory recommendations related with the ongoing state of crisis in the system.
