Abstract

The Quality Assessment Framework by Gore et al., translated into Spanish by EVALfor team, is a model for analyzing and improving the quality of evaluation practices in Higher Education. It is based on three main dimensions: intellectual quality, significance and quality learning environment. Objective: Taking this model as reference, we aimed to design, implement and evaluate high quality assessment tasks in the context of the course “Educational Psychology” (Master’s degree of Training of ESO, Bachillerato, FP and Language Secondary Teachers) Method: We first selected the specific quality criteria to be considered in the design of the tasks, while taking into account the characteristics of the course. Subsequently we used e-assessment procedures to implement the tasks, have access to students’ products and examine their opinion on the tasks (perceived quality, satisfaction, and improvement suggestions). Results: Students’ performance remarkably improved as compared to that shown by former students. Survey respondents (n=28) indicated that the tasks largely fulfilled the quality criteria pursued, primarily: deep knowledge (they were required to use key concepts), deep understanding (they were requested to provide arguments or reasoning that demonstrate the grasp of key concepts), and connectedness (they had to apply knowledge to real-life problems). In addition, on average they reported being quite satisfied with the assessment tasks. Conclusions: We have verified that the Quality Assessment Framework is a useful and satisfying tool for both students and teachers that helps to improve skills development.
