Abstract

This paper will deal with the evolution of the use of the verb forms hubiera dado and habría dado in the main clause (apodosis) of unreal conditional sentences in Spanish, that is, those with DEDISSEM value. To this end, we have prepared a corpus with the appearances that these two verb forms have with this particular use in the CORDE from the thirteenth century to the mid-nineteenth century. In this analysis, we will pay attention to the subordinate clauses (protasis) with which they combine (form and meaning).
