Abstract

This paper concerns abouth the given names that appear in the legal documents from the south of Avila written during the Middle Ages (14th and 15th Centuries) and preserved in the Municipal Archive of Mombeltrán. We intend to make a recount of the most usual given names, both masculine and feminine, gathered in the documentation from Avila, focusing on the most common and identifying the possible causes of its popularity. We also intend to study its etymological origin. Finally, this work is amied at the analysis of the most usual elements and structures used, along with the given names, in order to identify people, such as the various origin family names, kin relationship, trades, positions and titles, place of birth or residence, nicknames and religion or culture.
