Abstract

The paper consists in a set of reflections about the problems and possibilities that the usage of self-narratives has for the study of the making and reproduction of national identities. After a brief historiographical contextualization, it discusses the problems of definition, veracity, authenticity, representativeness, and the problems with diachronic reconstruction and comparisons. Finally, it uses the previous considerations in order to rethink some basic concepts, such as nationalization and nation-State.
