Zusammenfassung
The purpose of this paper is toprovide a state-of-the art- review of firm growth anddevelopment strategies. Three parts can be clearly distinguished. Firstly, it is intended to describe the guidelines characterising the development of large companies, and, in this respect, to analyse both how the dominant criteria about where the firm boundaries should be are changing and how the corporate strategy concept in management is changing in the theory as well as in practice. Secondly, the major contributions from the resource-based theory to the justification of firm growth are exposed. Finally, some of the most recent empirical works on the topic are commented upon as giving special emphasis to the spanish research.
