Résumé

In this work, we attempt to compare the acquisition of automaticity in visual search task when familiar and unfamiliar stimuli are used. The unfamiliar stimuli were comparable to alphanumeric characters, they only differed on the degree of familiarity. We analysed if the same levels of automatization were obtained in both cases, and the factors that affected development of automatization were all the same. For that purpose, we designed the same task with familiar and unfamiliar stimuli, and we considered the different levels of consistency and discriminability. Once the results were obtained and analysed, we found the same levels of automaticity in both cases, through when the material was unfamiliar, more than one try was necessary. Furthermore, in this case, the perceptive aspects of discriminability between targets and distractors affected the development of parallel processing.
