Abstract
In this study the authors deal with the image of the aristocratic woman projected by the late imperial pagan senator Quintus Aurelius Symmachus. Emphasis is given to the continuity existing on the level of the transmission and reproduction of values that women carried out in a clearly unifying sense. At the same time, this study of women reveals a change towards a society in which private values became progressively imposed on the public foundations on which the old Roman State rested.
