Abstract
This work analyses the establishment of the Bank of Spain's branch offices in Castile-Leon from two complementary points of view. On the one hand, we study the economic policy of the Bank of Spain. This policy was chiefly directed towards deals with the Treasury, which produced good profits. On the other hand, we study the state of the provinces where branch offices were set up. These provinces had a limited economic expansion, which hindered the establishment of the offices. But the first objective (and for a long time almost the only objective) of the Bank of Spain was simply to collect resources to lend them to the State.
