Résumé

This article shows the trajectory of management and leasing of three «dehesas» pertaining to the House of Montijo y Miranda situated in the municipality of Cespedosa de Tormes, province of Salamanca, during the nineteenth century. As regards leasing, nothing particular stands out in relation to what is already known, but the analysis of documents basically from notaries has allowed us to approach certain questions. In general there seems to have been an increasing tendency to formalize the relations concerning the cession of lands, through which the proprietors sought more convenient formulas and more direct control. This meant that they preferred to rent to wealthy livestock farmers from outside the area rather than to the local people, that they yielded to some of the aspirations of the livestock farmers in detriment to the gamekeepers and administrators and opted increasingly for the livestock alternative as opposed to agricultural use.
