Zusammenfassung

This article analyses the influence of vocabulary on writing and the comprehension of texts through a revision of some of the research that has focused on this subject. Having confirmed this influence, the objective is to develop a planned approach to the teaching of vocabulary, in the framework of activities that include reading comprehension and writing compositions, analysing the diverse aspects that dominate this teaching process: the setting of objectives, guiding principles of teaching, contents and activities, methodology and criteria for evaluating vocabulary. For each of these an active role is given to the students, as the protagonists of their learning, and the role of the teacher is oriented towards being a guide to this process.
