Abstract
In arid and semi-arid environments the total amount of precipitation and rainfall intensity are the main factors explaining hillslope runoff generation and production. However, the inner structure of the individual rainfall event is an important factor for understanding the hydrological response. In this study an index is presented, which describes the continuity or discontinuity and the variability of rainfall intensity during the event.
