Resum

The aim of this study was to examine the relation between several personal (Identity and Emotional Autonomy) and family (Environment and Parental Support) factors, and the experience of dating relationships in adolescence. The following relationship variables were used: dating status, duration, intimacy and sexual experience. Sexual differences were emphasized. Our sample consisted of 600 adolescents. The results show that females are involved in more long-lasting and intimate relationships. Furthermore, the females involved in dating relationships, relative to those not involved in them, show more identity achievement. Finally, the identity was positively associated with the intimacy for females, and with sexual experience for males. These results are discussed in terms of the connection between adolescents' personal and social development
