Zusammenfassung

The aim of this study is to examine the links connecting different personal variables, such as instrumentality, expressivity, self-consciousness, family self-esteem, social anxiety and communication skills, with two important aspects of relations of friendship in adolescence, i.e., peer self-esteen and intimacy with their best friend. The sample used for the study consisted of 610 high-school students in Salamanca (284 male and 326 female), aged between 14 and 19. They completed a series of self-report instruments through which the different predictive variables and criteria were assessed. The analyses performed show that, both for girls and boys, the communication skills variable is the one which predicts the highest percentage of the variance in peer self-esteem and in intimacy with the best friend. The strong relationships between instrumentality and peer self-esteem, on one hand, and between expressivity/family self-esteem and intimacy, on the other, are also worth of mention.
