Abstract
Humanism brought a new idea about knowledge that made appear a new library concept. Along sixteenth century this concept will origin new knowledge classifications, treatise about library history, functions and organization, new architectural and installations solutions We present Salamanca University Library case which, around the middle of the century, began the way to its modernization. However, the difficulties that it found on this way, from its physical and conceptual building, to its internal functioning, through books placing and classification process, hindered it to get completely its new image.
