Abstract

The present work was designed to analyze the deficits that show the children with mathematical disabilities in comparison with a children sample without difficulties, specifically in tasks of simple calculation. Using as methodology the chronometric models, we compare a sample of 24 second, fourth and sixth grade classified as learning disabled in matematics with a sample of 24 academically normal children of the same educational levels, in the dominance of basic numerical combinations (3 + 5 = ?). The results show that the children with difficulties present a specific deficit in the facts numerical retrieval from the long-term memory. Concretely, the deficits are found in the lack of efficiency and automaticity of the retrieval, what to them carries to consume processing resources. The results are interpreted in the context of the resolution of tasks arithmetic more complex in those which the arithmetic-fact retrieval is an important component
