Abstract
The options of work and the lacks that the local documentary sources offer are analysed when dealing with the study of the world of books and reading in limited geographic areas. In order to do this, the notarial registries of Zamora, Toro and, partially, of Salamanca in the 17"" century have been revised. The main questions presented are those referring to social representativeness, the quantification of the documentary sources, problems of Identification, classification and transmissions of the books, and their price and assessment.
