Resum
This paper compares the impact of hospital funding schemes on the efficient delivery of health care services. Using an asymmetric information and adverse selection model in a multitask environment, theoretical results are derived for incentive-compatible financing and global budget funding. Subsequently, numerical simulation is used to assess the performance of each funding system assuming different values for the most relevant model parameters. The survey suggests that more even financing across different types of hospitals is the most suitable solution when the services provided are highly complementary. Conclusions are likewise reached on the effect of intra- and inter-hospital asymmetries on prospective global financing.
