Origen de los "beachrocks" de la isla de La Palma, islas Canarias

Abstract

The studied beachrocks outcrop in the SW coast of La Palma island, between the village of Puerto Naos and the Fuencaliente lighthouse. They are rudstones and arenites cemented by several aragonitic and calcian magnesian cements. Elemental and isotopic geochemistry indicates precipitation from marine waters slightly modified by meteoric waters. The ages of these beachrocks are comprised between 33.000 years BP (Charco Verde beachrock) to less of 350 years BP (Echentive beachrock). The evolution of these beach deposits follows three stages: i) beach deposition, ii) beachrock formation, and iii) beach retrogradation and/or erosion.
