This paper aims to analyse the Passio Perpetuae from the perspective of modern narratology, with special attention to its narrative mode (mimesis vs. diegesis). The preminence of mimetic strategies can help us to understand why the text claims itself to be a repraesentatio rerum and to draw some pragmatic consequences: the possibility of a quasi-theatrical rendering of the text withing its obviously liturgical context and the reconsideration of Perpetua�s voice as belonging to a mysteriously absent narrator.
