Abstract
The main reasons used to explain why the Mondragón Cooperative Corporation (MCC) has been competitive during almost fifty years, are usually the economic structure of the Basque Country, or the dynamic role of José Mª Arizmendiarrieta. In this paper I would like to point another reason: the development of their own technological research institutes, which have provided technological resources in order to be independent from other initiatives. Here I will use the cultural frame proposed by Miguel Ángel Quintanilla, with the aim of analyzing some advantageous environmental grounds.
