Abstract
This work analyses the different patterns of rural settlements in the province of Salamanca from the Roman colonization (1st century C.E.) to the time of the Christian repopulation in the Middle Ages (10th to 12th centuries). The information was obtained from both intensive and extensive survey, as well as from the archaeological excavations carried out in the province in recent years. The archaeological data were then contrasted with paleo-environmental data in order to relate the settlement patterns to transformations in the plant landscape.
