Abstract
When Enrique de Villena decides to translate into prose the Virgil's Aeneid and to gloss it, his labour is preceded by a complex textual and exegetical tradition. This essay describes the appropriation of this tradicion by Villena, the transformation and the adaptation of a scientific and scholastic model to a project of civil gloss addressed to the courtly and chivalric culture.
