Abstract

This paper focuses on the complementarity role of the Spanish and foreign labour forces throughout the socio-demographic and territorial analysis of the active population who is working in the activity sectors in Spain. Especial attention is devoted to the diverging trends of both population groups (national and non-national labour forces). A main results of this research is the delimitation of spatial patterns within Spain, which are defined through the analysis of competition and substitution dynamics between Spanish and foreign workers within each Autonomous Community (region) and each activity sector. Data from the 2000 and 2005 waves of the Encuesta de Población Activa (EPA) -Spanish survey on labour force- are used.
