Abstract

This study makes known a hitherto unpublished funeral epigraph. The inscription was found in a place known as Las Abejas, within the town limits of Peñacaballera (Salamanca, Spain). The epigraph, in the form of a stele, was not cleaved from the block of natural granite in which it was carved. The inscription is located at the foot of the Roman road called Vía de la Plata, near the place where the mansio Caelionicco is located. An excavation was made next to the epigraph which provided vestiges of occupation of the place in Roman times although there were no burial remains.
