Abstract

In this paper I will analyze different proposal related to the role of values in science. I will consider with special attention those which try to surpass the essentialist ideas and acknowledge the importance of scientific communities during history. I also will study different approaches to the realm of values in technology, emphasizing the engineers proper values and how these values have an influence in their everyday work. I want to suggest a new area of study: technological sciences, which share values with basic science and technology. As well as scientists need to make costs-benefits analysis to choose among the different available possibilities, technologists have to take into account also values related with the applicability of their knowledge during the building of safety artefacts.
