Résumé

The José María Olabarri residence is one of the few single family dwellíngs on the Paseo del Campo de Volantín that we still may appreciate today. This building is considered one of the most representative works of the architect Julíán Zubízarreta, illustrious member of the so-called "Primera Generación del Ensanche" (First Generation of the Expansion). On the one hand, the layout of the plan reveals the echoes of Victorian Domestic Architecture. The sanitary installations, the central heating system, etc ... demonstrate the degree of comfort in this house, while the decoration of the principal dependencies, the Belgian origin of the waterspouts and the imported German stainedglass windows show substancial luxury. On the other hand, the facade, characterised by the angular baywindow lined tower, displays certain classicist detai!s and elements derived from the Queen Anne Movement as we!l. More precisely, the Olabarri residence, characterised by a plastic quality of Ruskínian origin, is an example of the architectonic currents in fashion toward the end of the nineteenth century.
