Abstract
This article studies the various manifestations of political preaching in medieval Spain. It first surveys relevant references from Castile, which although they do not preserve the actual speeches, serve to illustrate their context. Next it examines the most significant case of political preaching, royal preaching, a rare phenomenon centred on Angevin Italy and the Crown of Aragon. It thus discusses the origins and implications of this practice, and makes known a forgotten sermon by Peter IV, the first extant royal Aragonese sermon. Finally, it studies and place s in context a sermon preached by Sancho Porta before Alfonso V, with a strong ceremonial element which provides an intere sting example of the development of political preaching in Aragon under the house of Trastámara.
