Abstract
The article deals with the several meanings and embodiments of the term "empire" within the Global History approach (15th-21th centuries). It draws a theoretical outlook and breaks down the imperial realities into three aspects (political structure, imaginary and symbols, imperial repertoires) through diachronic case studies: archaic globalization in the Early Modern Times, building of modern globalization from c. 1770 until the great global crisis of 1914-1945, and modern globalization in the contemporary world.
