Resumen

The spatial distribution of clay minerals in the Cuestas Unit is described in this work. Cartographic distribution of the different minerals points towards a tectonic control of the genetic environments, resulting in NE-SW elongated bands. Kaolinite+chlorite and illite are located towards marginal areas of the Unit Palygorskite is concentrated in distal areas of a//uvial fans, derived from source areas located both to the NW and from the Honrubia basement area. Sepiolite and smectite concentrations are associated with evaporitic lacustrine basins, mainly located close to the Honrubia Massif
