Resumo

The analysis of several enzymatic systems on 12 samples of M. sativa by the starch gel electrophoresis technique has been carried out as a means of distinguishing varieties. In spite of the high level of variability that could be expected in a tetraploid and outcrossing species, no polymorphic zymograms have been found in some enzymatic systems. For the polymorphic systems which offered the clearest interpretation, the study and comparison of the allelic frequencies seems to be useful as a criterion of identification of some varieties analysed. Because some of them can not be distinguished, it could be worthwhile to convert the segregating loci into fixed loci in a breeding process of new varieties.
