Resumo

Introduction occupational therapy has not paid much attention to people with hearing disabilities regardless of the type of loss (hearing loss or deafness) or the time of loss (pre-lingual or post-lingual). Despite that Spain has been one of the first countries to adopt legislative measures and actions to implement some of the rights accepted by OT regarding the deaf community. Law 27/2007 and Law 17/2010 recognize the right of deaf people to learn, knowledge, use, research and interpret two sign languages in Spain: Spanish and Catalan in Cataluña, including access to Spanish health care in sign language. These measures, together with Law 51/2003, the First National Accessibility Plan 2004-2012 and the recent National Human Rights Plan represent an important advance in the promotion and protection of deaf people rights that use sing languages in Spain. However, they cannot eliminate attitudinal barriers, physical, policies, practices or resources created by society by themselves. Methodology therefore, the aim of this paper is to present a case study with a deaf person from the perspective of the occupational therapy on the basis of the Model of Human Occupation. Conclusion the application of the MOHO model improves occupational performance in daily instrumental activities and social participation including adaptations and support products for deaf people.
