Abstract
The study of cores recovered in the upper slope of the Gulf of Lions (European Union Project PROMESS 1) indicates that sedimentation rates abruptly changed in response to climate change and sea level variations and the subsequent movements of coastal lines. A series of levels rich in biogenic material were relarted to times of rapid sea level rises during global melt-water peaks that sharply reduced ice volume on Earth.
