Abstract

Introduction: Occupational Therapy increasingly opens new application areas that allow development of the discipline beyond the strictly clinical realm and make it possible to broaden the professional scope of therapists. Objectives: Starting from the premise that the environment is fundamental to the practice of Occupational Therapy, we wonder why there is no development of this discipline in humanitarian services and set as our main objective to highlight the need intervention from the Occupational Therapy persons with disabilities in a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. Methodology: we propose a qualitative work that used direct observation, semi-structured interviews and a rating scale designed to determine the effectiveness of intervention activities raised. Results: We present an intervention aimed at the person and the family environment that seeks to improve individual empowerment, achieving independence in activities of daily living and creating inclusive communities working towards occupational justice. Discussion and Conclusions: Since occupational therapy can work on issues of cooperation and humanitarian aid, promoting occupational participation and enabling social inclusion and access to rehabilitation.
