Abstract

The bottoms of stream beds, apart from presenting differences with other communities, permit the establishment of a grading in accordance with the topography This grading may be establish in order to soil characteristics and floristic composition. Other aspects such as soil water content and production confirm whether a precise typification has been made. The fact that the sampling period was carried out over two years, with marked differences in rainfall, yields knowledge concerning the fluctuations taking place in such communities, both regarding the spatial strategies foUowed by the species and the variation occurring in production. In this sense, there is great similarity with the behaviour shown in hill-side systems, although the drainage basins continué to show peculiar characteristics.
