Abstract

The aim of this paper is analyze the recent Directive 2016/343 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016. The purpose of the Directive is to strengthen the criminal proceedings the right to a fair trial, setting common minimum standards concerning certain aspects of the presumption of innocence and related rights, and the right to be present at trial, given the different levels of protection that the rights of suspects and accused persons present in the laws of the Member States.
