Abstract

The values that are the emblem of the Liberal State, which emerged at the end of the 18th century (Freedom, Equality, Fraternity) and which overcame monarchical absolutism, have evolved conceptually at the same time as the model of the Liberal State of Law transited the Social and Democratic State of Law. But the Social State model entered crisis from the last decades of the twentieth century. In time, this crisis coincided with the rise and rise of the globalizing process of markets, culture, the free circulation of services ... and the era of new technologies. But there was no globalization in the legal aspect where the referent has remained the nation state in which individuals have continued to try to defend their sphere of personal freedom. The generalized globalization has caused the loss of the values that are the axial nucleus of the dignity of the person. The severe economic crisis that we have suffered since 2008 has generalized such inequalities that most of the globalized society is indignant and shows evident signs of disaffection towards the ruling classes. This has caused a reaction to the emergence of new nationalisms who reject globalization and everywhere seek to blame for this situation which we live. These are difficult times for essential values of human dignity and the democratic system and humanism and responses are required from all areas to help this disenchanted to find a new direction in the twentieth century society.
