Resum

On the 24th of August 1562, Saint Teresa of Avila established her first foundation, Saint Joseph’s convent, in her home town, compelled by her desire to reform the Carmelite Order and revert to the simplicity of its origins. At that time, she was far from imagining that she was laying the first stone of a literary and reforming work which would turn her into a universal and timeless figure. In the two remaining decades of her life, after overcoming innumerable difficulties, she initiated another 16 foundations, following the model of the first monastery in Avila. 452 years later, Saint Joseph’s convent continues full of life, without being abandoned one single day in the middle of the ups and downs of history.
