Abstract

Il casellante (El guardabarrera in Spanish) by A. Camilleri is a highly original recreation of the Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne. From the field of Classical Philology we offer some guidance to enlighten the similarities and differences with the classical sources, as well as a possible reference to the myth of Niobe. The article also insists on the centrality of this novel in the trilogy of metamorphoses created by Camilleri, the parallelisms and different ways of transforming ancient tragic stories, developing their contents in new contexts and with unique, unexpected happy endings.
